Cell phone exploded inside car!

Beware! Cell phone could explode under extremely hot environment!

An incident of a cell phone explosion inside a vehicle cabin was reported in Saudi Arabia recently. The cell phone was reported left inside the car compartment while the vehicle was parked in an open area. One of the cell phone has its power ON, it was close to midday. Reportedly after an hour in the parking area, one of the cell phone exploded!

Obviously, the battery of the cell phone is the only component as the legitimate source of stored energy. The solar heat obviously pressurized the car’s closed cabin. What trigger the explosion could be the overheated battery caused by extremely high temperature magnified by the windshield (glass) and the sealed (unventilated) vehicle cabin.

The lesson learn from this incident is, better not to leave cell phone in the car compartment especially when the vehicle is exposed to direct sunlight for a prolonged period.

Evidence of rupture and heavy melting due to intense temperature as a consequence of the explosion.

Car compartment damage and cell phone unit are destroyed beyond repair.

Can anyone validate this story - why is there window glass under the bottle sitting on passengers seat?
Why so much sand on floor - yes i know they live in the desert but still?
That hard hat looks to be in good condition - perhaps it was placed there after explosion?

LOL, i cant see the window glass that you mentioned?

Why so much sand? This happen in Saudi, and maybe they are in the desert as you said :)

    The hat……maybe…

That sand on the floorboard is the dry powder from a fire extinguisher not sand.

We just got this at work to… I dont buy it, but I cant find anything to refute it.

I would expect the force of an explosion inside the car to blow all glass from the windscreen to the outside and not deposit it on the seat! The way the windscreen wiper is bent would indicate it was an object penetrating the windscreen from the outside and then exploding on the dashboard. In any case if Lithium batteries would be hazardous to such an extent they would have been banned by most countries for use in mobile phones.
